FOOD IS
MEDICINE

At Rooted in Wellness, we believe that food is one of the most powerful tools available to prevent disease, support healing, and improve quality of life. Our Food Is Medicine clinical programming bridges the gap between healthcare and everyday living by transforming medical nutrition recommendations into practical, sustainable habits that individuals and families can successfully incorporate into their daily lives.

NUTRITION SECRETS

Rooted in Wellness's foundational nutrition education program that empowers individuals and families to understand how food choices influence health, energy, and disease prevention. Through practical, evidence-based education, participants learn how to build balanced meals, read nutrition labels, understand essential nutrients, and develop healthy habits that fit their lifestyle, culture, and budget.

The program places a strong emphasis on preventing and managing prediabetes through nutrition and lifestyle changes while reducing the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes. Participants also learn how healthy eating can help prevent or improve obesity, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, fatty liver disease, metabolic syndrome, and other diet-related chronic conditions. By building confidence and practical skills, Nutrition Secrets equips participants to use food as medicine and create lasting, positive changes that support lifelong health and wellness.

DIABETES PREVENTION & MANAGEMENT

Rooted in Wellness's evidence-based lifestyle program designed to help individuals prevent, delay, or better manage Type 2 diabetes through nutrition, physical activity, and sustainable behavior change. Participants gain a clear understanding of blood sugar regulation, healthy meal planning, carbohydrate awareness, label reading, and the role of movement, stress management, and sleep in maintaining healthy glucose levels.

Whether newly diagnosed, living with diabetes, or at risk due to prediabetes or family history, participants receive practical tools and personalized strategies to improve A1C levels, increase insulin sensitivity, and reduce the risk of diabetes-related complications. The program also supports overall heart health, healthy weight management, and the prevention of other chronic conditions, empowering participants to take control of their health and build lifelong habits that promote lasting wellness.

FUEL FOR THE FIGHT

Rooted in Wellness's comprehensive nutrition education and supportive wellness program designed to help individuals diagnosed with cancer strengthen their bodies before, during, and after treatment. Led by a Registered Dietitian, participants learn how nutrition, hydration, symptom management, and healthy lifestyle practices can help maintain strength, support immune function, manage treatment side effects, and improve overall quality of life throughout their cancer journey.

More than a nutrition program, Fuel for the Fight provides compassionate education, practical cooking strategies, and a supportive community that empowers participants and caregivers to navigate treatment with confidence. The program emphasizes using food as medicine to support healing, reduce the risk of malnutrition and treatment-related complications, promote recovery, and establish lifelong wellness habits that continue well beyond cancer treatment, helping participants regain strength, resilience, and hope.

COMFORT KITCHEN

Rooted in Wellness's hands-on culinary program created for individuals undergoing cancer treatment, survivors, and their caregivers. Led by a Registered Dietitian, this class focuses on preparing comforting, nutrient-dense meals that can be made in advance and stored for the days when fatigue, nausea, or other treatment side effects make cooking difficult. Participants learn practical meal-planning strategies, batch cooking techniques, freezer-friendly recipes, and pantry essentials that ensure wholesome, nourishing meals are always within reach during chemotherapy, radiation, or recovery.

This class is not just cooking, Comfort Kitchen celebrates the healing power of food that nourishes both the body and the soul. Participants discover how to prepare gentle, flavorful meals using ingredients that may help ease common chemotherapy side effects such as nausea, taste changes, mouth sores, poor appetite, digestive discomfort, and fatigue. Every recipe is thoughtfully designed to provide essential protein, healthy fats, vitamins, minerals, hydration, and anti-inflammatory nutrients that support strength, healing, and resilience. Together, participants and caregivers gain the confidence to create a comforting kitchen filled with foods that offer nourishment, dignity, and hope throughout every stage of the cancer journey.
